HR 5183 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.07 solar masses, 5,794 K, 1.53 solar radii), 31.5 light-years from Earth. HR 5183 b is a 3.23-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 73.9 years, at 18.0 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 171 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.84), discovered in 2019 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery.
