HIP 99770 is a bright A-type star (about 1.90 solar masses, 8,000 K), 40.1 light-years from Earth. HIP 99770 b is a 17.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 15.8 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.31), discovered in 2023 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions. HIP 99770 b orbits far from its host star.
