HIP 78530 is a hot B-type star (about 2.50 solar masses, 10,500 K), 137 light-years from Earth. HIP 78530 b is a 23.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 740 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,700 K, discovered in 2010 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. HIP 78530 b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 2,700 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
