HIP 74890 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.74 solar masses, 4,850 K, 5.77 solar radii), 78.7 light-years from Earth. HIP 74890 b is a 2.40-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 2.25 years, at 2.100 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.07), discovered in 2016 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HIP 74890 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
