HIP 65426 is a bright A-type star (about 1.96 solar masses, 8,840 K, 1.77 solar radii), 355 light-years from Earth. HIP 65426 b was the first exoplanet imaged directly by JWST, a wide young giant used to commission the telescope's coronagraphs. HIP 65426 b is a 9.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 92.0 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,500 K, discovered in 2017 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. HIP 65426 b orbits far from its host star. The planet's large radius (16.8 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation.
