HIP 65 A is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.78 solar masses, 4,590 K, 0.72 solar radii), 61.8 light-years from Earth. HIP 65 A b is a 3.21-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 23.5 hours, at 0.018 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,411 K, discovered in 2020 via transit. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward.
