HIP 54597 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.80 solar masses, 4,799 K), 39.7 light-years from Earth. HIP 54597 b is a 2.40-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 8.96 years, at 4.000 AU from its star, discovered in 2023 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HIP 54597 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
