HIP 105854 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 2.10 solar masses, 4,780 K), 78.6 light-years from Earth. HIP 105854 b is a 8.20-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 184 days, at 0.810 AU from its star, discovered in 2014 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HIP 105854 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. At 8.2 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs.
