HD 95872 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.70 solar masses, 5,312 K, 0.84 solar radii), 72.2 light-years from Earth. HD 95872 b is a 3.74-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 12.0 years, at 5.150 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.06), discovered in 2015 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 95872 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
