HD 95086 is a bright A-type star (about 1.60 solar masses, 7,595 K), 86.2 light-years from Earth. HD 95086 b is a young giant planet imaged directly in a debris disk, still glowing with the heat of formation. HD 95086 b is a 5.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 55.7 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,000 K, discovered in 2013 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. HD 95086 b orbits far from its host star. The 2013 announcement placed HD 95086 among the thousands of confirmed planetary systems mapped since the first exoplanet detections.
