HD 86728 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.97 solar masses, 5,610 K, 1.24 solar radii), 14.9 light-years from Earth. HD 86728 b is a 9.4-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 31.2 days, at 0.192 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.07), discovered in 2025 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 86728 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
