HD 82886 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 2.53 solar masses, 4,953 K, 5.26 solar radii), 127 light-years from Earth. HD 82886 b is a 2.33-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.93 years, at 1.580 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.07), discovered in 2011 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 82886 b orbits at roughly the distance of Mars from the Sun.
