HD 75289 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.29 solar masses, 6,117 K, 1.23 solar radii), 29.1 light-years from Earth. HD 75289 b is a 0.49-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.5 days, at 0.050 AU from its star, discovered in 1999 via radial velocity. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. HD 75289 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
