HD 5583 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.01 solar masses, 4,830 K, 9.09 solar radii), 219 light-years from Earth. HD 5583 b is a 5.78-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 139 days, at 0.530 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.08), discovered in 2016 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 5583 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone.
