HD 185269 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.30 solar masses, 5,923 K, 2.00 solar radii), 52.0 light-years from Earth. HD 185269 b is a 1.01-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 6.8 days, at 0.077 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.23), discovered in 2006 via radial velocity. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward.
