HD 180053 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.75 solar masses, 5,131 K, 4.06 solar radii), 137 light-years from Earth. HD 180053 b is a 2.19-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 214 days, at 0.843 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.08), discovered in 2018 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 180053 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone.
