HD 169142 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.85 solar masses, 7,246 K), 114 light-years from Earth. HD 169142 b is a 3.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 37.2 AU from its star, discovered in 2023 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. HD 169142 b orbits far from its host star. The 2023 announcement placed HD 169142 among the thousands of confirmed planetary systems mapped since the first exoplanet detections.
