HD 149026 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.42 solar masses, 6,179 K, 1.41 solar radii), 75.9 light-years from Earth. HD 149026 b is a hot Saturn with an enormous heavy-element core, denser and smaller than a normal gas giant of its mass. HD 149026 b is a 0.38-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 2.9 days, discovered in 2005 via radial velocity. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. The planet's large radius (8.3 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation.
