HD 142245 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 3.50 solar masses, 4,922 K, 4.63 solar radii), 97.2 light-years from Earth. HD 142245 b is a 3.07-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.56 years, at 2.780 AU from its star, discovered in 2011 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 142245 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
