HD 114729 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.94 solar masses, 5,844 K, 1.47 solar radii), 37.8 light-years from Earth. HD 114729 b is a 0.82-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.07 years, at 2.067 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.08), discovered in 2002 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 114729 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
