HD 109988 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.88 solar masses, 5,186 K), 42.5 light-years from Earth. HD 109988 b is a 21.8-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 46.9 years, at 12.5 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.06), discovered in 2022 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. HD 109988 b orbits far from its host star.
