HD 109286 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.98 solar masses, 5,694 K, 1.09 solar radii), 55.4 light-years from Earth. HD 109286 b is a 2.99-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.42 years, at 1.259 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 259 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.34), discovered in 2021 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery.
