HD 106906 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.50 solar masses, 6,516 K), 103 light-years from Earth. HD 106906 b is a giant planet imaged at a huge separation, orbiting far out of the plane of its debris disk. HD 106906 b is a 11.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 650 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,800 K, discovered in 2013 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. HD 106906 b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 1,800 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
