HD 102195 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.76 solar masses, 5,301 K, 0.82 solar radii), 29.3 light-years from Earth. HD 102195 b is a 0.41-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 4.1 days, at 0.050 AU from its star, discovered in 2006 via radial velocity. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. HD 102195 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
