HATS-70 is a bright A-type star (about 1.78 solar masses, 7,930 K, 1.88 solar radii), 1,459 light-years from Earth. HATS-70 b is a 12.9-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.9 days, at 0.036 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,730 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.18), discovered in 2019 via transit. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward.
