GJ 896 A is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.44 solar masses, 3,345 K), 6.3 light-years from Earth. GJ 896 A b is a 2.26-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 284 days, at 0.640 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.35), discovered in 2022 via astrometry. GJ 896 A adds another data point to the growing catalogue of planetary systems whose masses, orbits, and host-star properties constrain models of planet formation. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions.
