GJ 504 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.22 solar masses, 6,234 K), 17.5 light-years from Earth. GJ 504 b is a cold, low-mass giant planet imaged far from a Sun-like star, one of the least massive worlds seen directly. GJ 504 b is a 4.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 43.5 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 510 K, discovered in 2013 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. GJ 504 b orbits far from its host star. Located about 17.5 light-years away, GJ 504 is one of the nearer exoplanet hosts on the sky.
