FU Tau is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.05 solar masses, 2,838 K). FU Tau b is a 16.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 800 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,375 K, discovered in 2008 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. FU Tau b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 2,375 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
