DENIS-P J082303.1-491201 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.07 solar masses, 5,778 K). DENIS-P J082303.1-491201 b is a 28.5-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 246 days, at 0.360 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.34), discovered in 2013 via astrometry. DENIS-P J082303.1-491201 adds another data point to the growing catalogue of planetary systems whose masses, orbits, and host-star properties constrain models of planet formation. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions. DENIS-P J082303.1-491201 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
