CT Cha is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.00 solar masses, 4,403 K), 191 light-years from Earth. CT Cha b is a 17.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 440 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,600 K, discovered in 2007 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. CT Cha b orbits far from its host star. The planet's large radius (24.7 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation.
