CI Tau is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.90 solar masses, 3,807 K), 158 light-years from Earth. CI Tauri is about 2 million years old and still has a protoplanetary disk; planet c is a massive giant on a short, eccentric orbit. CI Tau c is a 3.60-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 25.2 days, at 0.170 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.58), discovered in 2024 via radial velocity. The planet betrayed itself through the star's reflex motion — a technique that first revealed worlds around Sun-like stars in the 1990s and remains a workhorse of exoplanet discovery. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions.
