CFBDSIR J145829+101343 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.02 solar masses, 581 K). CFBDSIR J145829+101343 b is a 10.5-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 27.5 years, at 2.600 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 370 K, discovered in 2011 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. CFBDSIR J145829+101343 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region. At 10.5 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs.
