AB Pic is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.90 solar masses, 5,285 K), 50.0 light-years from Earth. AB Pic b is a 13.5-Jupiter-mass companion, at 260 AU from its star, discovered in 2005 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. AB Pic b orbits far from its host star. At 13.5 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs.
