2MASS J03590986+2009361 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.26 solar masses, 2,943 K), 117 light-years from Earth. 2MASS J03590986+2009361 b is a 18.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 572 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,369 K, discovered in 2024 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. 2MASS J03590986+2009361 b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 2,369 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
