1RXS J160929.1-210524 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.85 solar masses, 4,060 K), 139 light-years from Earth. 1RXS J160929.1-210524 b is a 8.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 330 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,700 K, discovered in 2008 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. 1RXS J160929.1-210524 b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 1,700 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
